Merino Qualities

Our Merino is soft and lightweight against a newborns new skin. Our 100% merino is 18.5 micron quality and is perfect to wear all year around , warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Merino is a super sustainable, annually renewable fibre, which is naturally grown and it is biodegradable. Our Merino is also free of harsh chemicals. Eva + Archie's merino is guaranteed to be of New Zealand and Australian Origin and meets the Responsible Wool Standard.

Temperature regulating

Newborn babies find it hard to regulate their body temperature until they are about 18 months old. Merino fibre is breathable, and it removes moisture and clamminess from the skin, which helps newborns from overheating, this is called moisture-wicking, perfect for babies. Merino keeps babies warm even if a little damp. Warm babies sleep longer and feed better and are more content. Cold babies don’t feed or sleep or thrive as well.

NZ Plunket recommends merino for sleeping as it’s a natural fibre.

The merino fibre can stretch over 30% and still recover to its natural shape. Merino is 6 times stronger than cotton, and also drys more quickly than cotton.

Merino can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture before it feels damp. Merino is UV resistant with a sun protection UPF of at least 50. It is also less likely to grow bacteria and retain odours.

Fire Resistant

Merino is fire resistant, the safest of fabrics for your precious newborn. If ignited it will burn slowly and may even self extinguish.

( It exceeds Fire Safety requirements for BS 5722)
